Candlelight Vigil in Honour of Nex Benedict
Candlelight Vigil in Honour of Nex Benedict
March 3, 2024 6:15 pm - 9:15 pm
Fredericton City Hall
Event: https://facebook.com/events/s/candlelight-vigil-in-honour-of/944107883604492/
Please join us on Sunday, March 3/2024 at City Hall in Fredericton for a candlelight vigil in honour of Nex Benedict.
Nex Benedict was a 16 year old non-binary indigenous youth of Oklahoma. They recently passed away as a result of brutal violence which took place in their school washroom.
Nex loved cats, rockmusic, video games and they were a gifted artist and 4.0 student. They should still be alive today; they should have had the chance to grow up and realize their dreams.
We request the presence of all 2SLGBTQIA+ and allies who have been affected by this tragedy, so we may honour Nex and mourn this tragedy together as a community.
We will gather at about 6:15PM and start the vigil by 6:30PM. Candles will be provided on site.
We will share words, songs, a moment of silence and then leave the microphone open for whomever may feel compelled to share some words, a poem, an experience, or perhaps just a simple phrase of solidarity.
This event has been organized as a result of what happened to Nex, but is for each and every one of us who belong to this community as well as anyone who cares about those who belong. We hope as many of you that are able will join us.
***PLEASE share this event here and on any other social media platforms you frequently use. Feel free to screenshot or copy&paste to Twitter, Instagram, Tiktok, etc. Help spread this event to as many members of the Fredericton community as you can over this week leading up to the event. Thank you for your support.***

Pervatory Book Launch
Pervatory Book Launch
March 20, 2024 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Monarch Night Club
Event: fb://event/1350028542380341
Join us on March 20th, 6pm-9pm at Monarch Night Club (474 Queen St) to celebrate R. M. Vaughan’s posthumous novel Pervatory (Coach House Books, 2023). The event will include readings by Sue Sinclair, Triny Finlay and Jamie Kitts from the novel and collage led by Pride Swell+.
ASL Interpretation and snacks provided. Alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks available for purchase.
R.M. Vaughan was a writer, poet, artist and art critic who was born in Saint John in 1965, he was Writer in Residence at UNB Fredericton in the Winter of 2020 and died in October 2020. He was a huge supporter of QHINB and believed in collecting and preserving queer archives.
As part of his time as Writer in Residence, Vaughan held an event called Cut/Paste/Resist asking those around the world to create and send collages documenting protest, social upheaval, and rejuvenation. Vaughan showed us that collage is an accessible, fun way to make art and used by artists and activists alike despite isolation and limited mobility. All you need is glue, scissors, and paper. The rest is up to you!
Please join us and celebrate his achievement and legacy in the Canadian art scene.

Trans Day of Visibility
March 31, 2024 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick
Please note that this event is not organized by ConneQT. The information may be incorrect or out of date. Please check the event link below to confirm all details.
Event: https://facebook.com/events/s/trans-day-of-visibility/996653851419964/
International Transgender Day of Visibility is an annual event that celebrates transgender people and the contributions they make to society. This day also seeks to raise awareness of the discrimination that transgender people experience worldwide. Transgender people have survived a year where their existence and their rights continue to be debated in New Brunswick. They have endured increased experiences of bullying and harassment in the process. On this Transgender Day of Visibility, the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and their allies wish to counter this narrative by providing a day to celebrate trans joy!
Imprint Youth is offering an event that will host story sharing, poetry, collaborative art, and various activities to bring us together, united in celebration. We will begin by taking up space outside the New Brunswick Legislature from 12-2PM and will move to Imprint Youth’s Space at 554 Brunswick Street for a Drop-In. We invite you to see all that Imprint has to offer, to meet new faces, and most importantly, to meaningfully connect with supportive folks in the community.
Please spread the word!
